The Northwest Douglas County Chamber and Economic Development Corporation recently named the winners of the 2020 Business Awards. Announced by Becky Holm, the 2021 Chamber Management Committee Chair, via video, the usual breakfast ceremony was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as Becky stated: “The show must go on!”

And it did!

This year, there was an amazing group of nominees for myriad categories that included: Small/Home Office, Small Business of the Year, Medium-Sized Business of the Year, Large-Sized Business of the Year, and Non-Profit of the Year. The winners were not only rated on and chosen for their growth and innovation, but also for resilience and service to the community during this challenging, unprecedented time.

Regarding the nominees for Small Business of the Year, businesses eligible for this award needed to have between four and ten employees on their staff. The Small Business of the Year nominees were: Bishops Cuts and Color, Complete CryoSpa, Image One Facility Solutions, The Law Center, Purity Skin Studio, and Miller & Associates, CPAs.

Miller & Associates, CPAs was named Small Business of the Year 2020!

As Becky mentioned, Miller & Associates was chosen largely due to their service to the community, which entailed offering free tax returns to anyone who lost their job due to the pandemic. Further, Miller & Associates was able to offer expertise, advice, and resources via Zoom to the chamber and staff members, ultimately assisting even more businesses in need.

Mike Miller, founder of Miller & Associates, CPAs and a member of the Chamber Management Committee, came up with the “Pay it Forward” idea in which Chamber members sponsored other members who couldn’t afford to renew their membership. Miller & Associates was able to sponsor three new members themselves.

While accepting the award (again, remotely), Mike mentioned how proud he was to be able to assist as many of his clients as possible while living through a pandemic. Mike also revealed how his own business has evolved. He now offers business advisory services including cash flow forecasting and budgeting services.

Miller & Associates, CPAs is not only thrilled to be named Small Business of the Year 2020, but also extremely honored. They send their congratulations to all other winners and nominees, as well as a big thank you to the Northwest Douglas County Chamber and Economic Development Corporation.
